Since Baubax exploded on Kickstarter, travel jackets are popping up everywhere and I thought that was something new – but I was wrong: SCOTTeVEST has been making jackets full of pockets for more than 15 years!

There are lots of things I love about the Scottevest, and a just a few I didn’t like so much. You might be wondering: which jacket I used the most: SCOTTeVEST or Baubax?

Although I think the Baubax Bomber has a cooler design, I caught myself using the SCOTTeVEST Sterling almost all the time. One of the main reasons is because the SCOTTeVEST breathes much better than the Baubax – and it is way lighter as well. I also admit I liked the keychain holder a lot – and the “PadPocket” is perfect for my GoPro Karma Grip 🙂

When my touch pockets got foggy, I wrote an email to SCOTTeVEST and they wrote me back this RECIPE:

“The clear touch pockets will get cloudy with use and if they sit in an area with moisture for period of time (most likely the humidity/hot weather sitting in the closet). We recommend a 10:1 warm-water to white vinegar solution to clear them up.”

I also used warm water with a bit of lemon juice (no sugar) and it worked for me.

  2. I'm thinking of purchasing 2 SCOTTeVEST for an upcoming trip with my husband. The biggest complaint
seems to be the quality of the zippers. How do you feel about the zippers?

  3. The men's items are all way better than the women's items. I have many, and I never use the women's items, because they are shaped strangely (no room for breasts, but tons of room if you had really, really, gigantic hips). The men's all have more pockets than the women's. Why? No excuse for that at all!

  4. I purchased both and they are not even close, Scottevest hands down winner.

The build quality of baubax 2 is just inferior to Scottevest:
zipper is small and struggle to open. Footrest broke after my 3rd or 4th use, it popped at the seam.
The Velcro at the back of my baubax hoodie for holding a thin scarf, always prick at the back of my neck, very uncomfortable.

Overall, I feel that not enough test were given to the baubax's design, the user experience is just worse than the Scottevest.

  5. Geek Detour: I think you can use lipstick pocket for lip balm sticks when lips are dry.

Just got my Baubax (2.0, not the same original one you've reviewed) last month but I am from a tropical nation of Singapore, will use that for cold server rooms (working as IT) and places as cold as Shanghai, San Francisco, Genting Highlands (Malaysia), but not Scandinavian/Iceland/Greenland cold (my nose hates those places anyways).

Next jacket to review from Kickstarter as suggestion: Norrland Parka from Sweden! Awesome quality on paper. I find it too costly though. It's still being funded by 150 backers, perhaps you can get one later this year.
